- Separate ‘sent,’ ‘received,’ ‘filed,’ ‘accepted,’ ‘entered,’ ‘served,’ and ‘decided’ in the status log; one does not automatically prove another.
- Plan transportation, security screening, child care, work leave, document copies, interpretation, and technology before the legal event becomes urgent.
- Keep a contact log showing organization, independently verified number or domain, intake result, documents requested, confidentiality explanation, and follow-up date.
- Record uncertainty beside the source. ‘County rule not yet checked’ is more useful than an unsupported statewide statement.
- Close the research session by naming one decision, one verified deadline, one best record, one missing fact, and one responsible person or institution.
