Editorial promise
Every LawHaven page should help a reader make a safer next decision without pretending to decide the case. We distinguish general information from legal advice, identify jurisdictional limits, prefer primary sources, and avoid invented deadlines, fees, forms, case outcomes, attorney credentials, testimonials, or statistics.
How we prepare and review pages
- Define the reader task. State the document, decision, or procedural question the page addresses.
- Map the authorities. Identify court, agency, statute, rule, contract, or program sources and their jurisdiction.
- Draft for action. Provide record lists, verification steps, risk checkpoints, and questions—not personalized conclusions.
- Review for usefulness and accessibility. Check scope, clarity, source support, navigation, plain-language headings, mobile readability, and accessible presentation.
- Update or correct. Revise material when sources, procedures, or reader-safety issues change; preserve a truthful update date.
Corrections standard
Correction requests should identify the URL, exact passage, supporting source, and requested change. Contact +1 (917) 795-4388. We assess the controlling authority, make warranted corrections, and update the page date when substantive content changes.
No page is represented as individually reviewed by a lawyer unless a real named reviewer and review scope are displayed. LawHaven currently publishes pages under the organization's name rather than attributing them to an individual lawyer.
Information-quality checklist
- The source has authority over the correct jurisdiction and issue.
- The page, rule, or form shows a current revision or effective date.
- The facts and procedural stage match the instruction.
- Important statements can be traced to complete documents or firsthand records.
- Uncertainty, conflicts, and missing evidence are stated rather than hidden.
Reader verification record for LawHaven Editorial Standards and Corrections Policy
Record the exact page and section used, the controlling source checked, its revision or effective date, the jurisdiction, and the factual assumption that makes it relevant. Keep a copy of the source when an important deadline or decision depends on it.
Before acting, ask whether a later order, local rule, agency instruction, amendment, contract clause, or professional review changes the general information. State remaining uncertainty plainly. The goal is a traceable decision file, not a collection of unverified summaries.

Decision-quality check for LawHaven Editorial Standards and Corrections Policy
Before using this page, connect the general explanation to the correct jurisdiction, complete source document, current procedural stage, and independently verified authority. Write down what the page cannot establish for the reader’s facts.
Before relying on the result, have a second reader compare the task statement with the source document. The reader should be able to identify the same authority, date, requested action, and unresolved question without additional explanation.
When the remaining uncertainty affects safety, a deadline, housing, income, legal status, property, medical care, or a binding signature, use qualified local help rather than resolving the gap with more general searching.

How to use this page safely
Use this checklist to confirm that the page fits your situation before relying on it. Identify the decision you need to make, verify current information with the controlling source, protect sensitive records, and note any unanswered question.
- State the single reader decision this page supports and the decisions it expressly cannot make.
- Test claims against a current primary source and retain the passage that supports the published wording.
- Keep originals and an unredacted master secure; create a separate permitted sharing copy and record delivery.
- Commercial relationships should be labeled beside the affected recommendation before a reader clicks or submits information.
- Use a dated task log showing source checked, action taken, recipient, delivery method, confirmation, and next follow-up.
- A readable page needs a direct answer, descriptive section order, concise lists, table labels, focus visibility, and no color-only meaning.
Write down the source URL, date checked, task, unresolved limitation, and safest next contact. This checklist organizes research; it does not turn general information into legal advice.
